Cazenovia Creek starts up in the Boston Hills-which lies in the area's snowbelt.  The first thaw unleashes a torrent of water and the traditional ice jam flooding that brings flocks of people and reporters to witness the circus at the Stevenson Street Bridge. This year was pretty uneventful due in part to some experimental cutting of the ice prior to the flowdown. It seems to have worked.  This stretch of the creek is above the collecting area and glowed nicely in the morning light.

When we hit the final stretch of winter and slip into the doldrums of believing the spring will never come.... it is nice to see the sun as the  glowing ball of fire that it is. Nevermind  that the temperature is 10 degrees and the wind chill creates a ball biting feel of minus twenty. Before we realize it....there will be green grass growing   on a deep draft of snowmelt!

There are a few places I return to throughout the year. One of them is Green Bridge, shown here. I enjoy peering into the depths and the layers of blacks and greys set against the texture of the contrasting snow.

Winter, while especially cold these last few weeks is still a beautiful time.  This couple of mourning doves was huddled just outside my window. I didn't even need to get dressed....only a bit of stealth as to not ruffle their feathers.

It is good to let your hair down every now and then and let the inner child loose.....take things a little less seriously, it is good sound  therapy.  I have many images of a flood control project known locally as "The Slants". It is the same place that experiences the ice jam flooding and the strong possibility of a bridge being washed out just about every first melt...it was being monitored as the temperatures hit the 50 degree mark New Years Day. That said, it makes the psychedelic aspect of this image all the more fun!
